New EMC Forum
& Database With the incidence of PLT Spectrum Abuse rising sharply,
along with many other unacceptable spectrum pollution, a new
forum has been launched to discuss all aspects of EMC. Tied in
with the new forum is a new EMC Database which will be used to
accumulate evidence of spectrum abuse from companies selling
non-compliant products. Please follow the links to the
FORUM and the
DATABASE.
Lab Tests Reveal Truth! The EMC legislation relies upon the quality of the tests
undertaken by laboratories and to this end, labs with the
authorisation to test to the harmonised standards are called
Notified Bodies. The personnel responsible are highly trained
and the results definitive. We have just published a set of
results for a Comtrend PLT adapter from one such Notified Body.
The result speaks for itself.
Urgent - 300 MHz is live!
We recently purchased a Belkin "Gigabit Powerline HD Starter Kit"
model F5D4076uk.
The units were installed per the manual and the emissions inside the
house effectively wiped out most radio reception from:-
0.1 MHz to 370 MHz.
The units have been sent away for examination and testing to the current
harmonised standards. The preliminary test
results are in and it does not look good.
On
August 3 2010 Ofcom hosted a meeting for concerned
Stakeholders. Whilst it was clear that the EC has a huge hand
perpetuating the problem, the
Civil Aviation Authority made it clear they were very
worried and have tasked their lawyers to investigate.
PLT Report Finally Arrives!
In
2009, Ofcom commissioned a report from independent
consultants regarding the effects of widespread use of in-home
PLT. Originally due in November 2009 it has been delayed
numerous times but now published, it is the clearest damning
indictment of PLT in its present form, yet published. Read
about it

Facts - At A Glance. . .
PLT stands for Powerline Telecommunication - Ethernet over mains
electrical wiring.
The technology relies upon radio frequency signals which 'leak'
from mains wiring.
The interference caused has been observed over 1 km from a single
installation.
The
BBC,
NATO, CENELEC,
RSGB, ARRL and others have expressed
deep concern.
A new 'faster' version is in production which generates
interference to over 300 MHz.
About the RSGB
The RSGB or Radio Society
of Great Britain is the national membership
organisation for Amateur Radio enthusiasts. The society was founded in
1913 and looks after the interests of the 65,000 licensed Radio
Amateurs.
The RSGB is liaises with Ofcom on Spectrum matters but has been almost
completely ignored regarding the topic of PLT. To this effect, the
RSGB has created the "Spectrum Defence Fund" with the long term view
of taking legal action against Ofcom should they fail in their
Statutory Duty to protect the Spectrum on behalf of its Stakeholders.
About UKQRM
UKQRM
is an action group comprising of people who have been affected by the
interference generated from PLT devices, experienced electronics
experts and professionals who have deep concerns
about the potential of the technology to affect other equipment; and
like-minded people who simply think it is wrong to pollute a natural
resource.
Prior to UKQRM's web site there were virtually no complaints; in
general people either did not know what the interference was, or that
they had a right to have it stopped. PLT is now Ofcom's largest
interference problem. . .
